FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who do we serve?

The Stickney-Forest View Public Library District serves the villages of Stickney, Central Stickney and Forest View directly. The library is a member of the Metropolitan Library System (MLS), an organization made up academic, public, school, and special libraries in Chicago and in the suburban communities of Cook, DuPage and Will counties.

What does this mean?

Good question. It means that anyone with a valid library card from any of the participating MLS libraries can check out the materials at the library.

Not sure if your library is a member of the Metropolitan Library System?

What if I live in Chicago? Can I still check out books?

Although Chicago libraries belong to a different system, the Chicago Public Libraries (CPL) and the Metropolitan Library System (MLS) libraries, of which Stickney-Forest View Public Library is one, have set up an agreement so that members of either library system can use the services and materials of the other. If you have a CPL card, you can apply for an MLS card that will allow you to check out materials from participating libraries. For more on this, please check out our Get A Card page.

There are limitations, so you may want to check ahead to make sure that you will be able to get what you need before making any special trips.
