JUNE 25th - AUGUST 18th

The children's staff will be visiting schools the first and second weeks of June to talk to the children about summer reading!

Don't miss our Summer Reading Kickoff Event!!
We are so excited to have SCOTT JAMESON perform here in Northboro!

LOOK FORWARD TO IT -
Our July and August Calendars will both be out the beginning of July so all our summer readers can plan ahead to attend fun events during both months!

Library Mission Statement
What ARE we here for??

In case you were wondering!  -

The mission of the Northborough Free Library is to provide its customers with a selection of printed, recorded, or electronic materials for all ages.  Materials are purchased for recreation, independent learning, and vocational and educational support.  In addition, the library provides access to materials and information in other libraries or organizations, and from remote electronic databases.               The library also serves as a center of community activity, with programs for preschoolers to the elderly; a meeting place for civic, cultural, social, and other non-profit organizations; and a distribution point for local information.

Welcome to the Children's Room!

Kids and Teens going into grades 6-12 in the fall, VOLUNTEER TO HELP WITH THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM!

The program runs from June 25th to August 18th.  We need help giving out Summer Reading Bags, awarding raffle tickets and other prizes, and telling patrons how the program works.

Starting Monday, May 21st, come fill out an application to volunteer!  We have set up training sessions and will give you all the information you need to help!

You can put volunteer hours towards honor society, church volunteer requirements, etc.

Summer Reading can't happen without volunteers!!

See Children's Room Staff with any questions.

Your family can adopt a shelf for the months of July and August!

It’s a  great way for kids to learn a little more about the library and feel ownership of the books they love.

Adopting a shelf means…

*you come to a training session to show you how to take care

of the books on your shelf

*you commit to coming to the library at least 4

   times during 2 months

*your family name will be put on a special place card next

to your shelf for the length of the program!

*you can request where to adopt! (fiction, picture books,

  graphic novels, etc)

*At the end of the summer, a book will be donated to your

section in your family’s honor – with a special bookplate!

Registration for Adopt A Shelf will begin June 1st.

You will be able to sign up for a training session at that time, and will be assigned a shelf at training!

LOOK WHAT COMES OUT THIS FALL!

I am so excited for a sequel to Because of Mr. Terupt, which was rated as the most-loved book in my 3rd and 4th grade book group this year.

I wrote to Mr. Rob Buyea (the author) letting him know how effected the children were by his book that touched on pretty tough, relevant topics like bullying, broken families, and how sometimes, judging right from wrong isn't as easy as we'd like.

I received a gracious email in return, in which Mr. Buyea spilled the beans about his second book!  Now it is official - Mr. Terupt returns in October!

We will be reading this one for sure!

Remember - Registration for Children's Programs begins on the first day of the month unless otherwise noted.  Spots do fill quickly so call right away!

NEW SPANISH EARLY READERS!

We have a whole bunch of early readers in Spanish!  Some are titles you may recognize from well known American authors like Dr. Suess, and others are original Spanish titles!

Come check these out!  They are great for kids learning Spanish, or for families who speak Spanish at home.

Audiobook warning:

For people with multi-disc players, occasionally a library CD will get stuck.  This is true, mostly, for multi-cd players installed in cars.  Please play at your own risk.  Thank you!
