Nature Walks (9 and up with caregiver)
Next Walk: Saturday, Jan. 28, 9 a.m. @ Library Springs
 
Library SpringsTake a guided tour through Library Springs (right behind the library!). Participants will learn to identify the wildlife and plant life seen on the hike. Don’t forget to bring binoculars and wear appropriate walking attire. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration required. In the meantime, check out Miss Heidi's Nature Walk blog!
 

Fun With Frogs (Grades 2 and up) (No School Day!)

Fun With FrogsRandy Korb will bring a variety of native frogs, from spring peepers to big bullfrogs, for children to hold, listen to, and feed. No registration required.
 
 
 

Free Kids Movie & Popcorn in Meeting Room
Doors open half hour before showtime. Free popcorn and refreshments. Children under age 9 must be accompanied by an adult. Audience capacity is limited to 80 people. NO tickets required.

Programa de Cuentos en Español / Spanish Storytime
Mondays, Dec. 5, Jan. 2, Feb. 6, 7 p.m.
 
Children of all ages and their families will enjoy enchanting stories, finger plays and Programa De Cuentossongs during this free, half-hour program. The group meets in the library's meeting room on the lower level. No registration is required. / Ninos de todas edades gozaran los cuentos en espanol. No es necesario inscribirse. Lugar: Cuarto de Conferencias, Nivel Inferior. 
 

Milk & Cookie Storytime @ Panera in Elgin (3-6 year olds)
Four new sessions starting Feb. 27
 
Milk & Cookie StorytimeExpert storytellers from the Dundee Library and professional cookie-bakers from Panera Bread in Elgin have collaborated to create a slam-dunk “Milk & Cookie Storytime” program. The storytime will be held at Panera, located at 2482 North Randall Road.

 

This special program is just for three- to six-year olds. Stories will be presented by librarians from the Dundee Library Children’s Department, and each child will receive a free milk and cookie, compliments of Panera. The program is free, but registration is required. Register online by clicking a date below (starting on Feb. 13), call (847) 428-3661, ext. 310, or stop by the Children’s Desk at the library.

Alphabet Soup Preschool Storytime
Tuesdays or Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m.
 
Stir up some fun at the Alphabet Soup preschool storytime! This free, eight-week series will include puppets, stories, activities, and songs for preschool children and a caregiver. No reservation required. For more information, contact the Children’s Department (847) 428-3661, ext. 310. The next session will run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. from Feb. 14 through Apr.4.

Baby Play Group
Mondays from 10-11 a.m.
Baby Play Group
This  popular hour-long program begins its next eight-week run on Feb. 13. Session includes a brief parent and child book share to ignite a love of books at this early stage. Then let your baby play while you socialize with other parents. The next session runs from Feb. 13 through Apr. 2 in the library's meeting room on the lower level. No registration needed.

Reading Patch Club (New Categories This Year!)
Now until May 26, 2012

Reading Patch ClubKids can wear their love of reading on their sleeve (or their backpack, jeans, or jacket) by participating in the Dundee Library’s Reading Patch Club. The club invites children in preschool through eighth grade to read their favorite books and explore the library for new ones, which earns them patches.

Preschoolers through second graders can earn three patches in the following categories: general-humor, fantasy, animals, adventure, bedtime, school, book award, sports, and outdoors. They must read, or have read to them, 20 books in a category to receive a patch.

Third through eighth graders can earn five different patches in:  fantasy, animals, mystery, book award, outdoors, scary/ghost, graphic novel, school, and sports. They must read ten books in a category to receive a patch.

Perfect for the car or quiet time! A Playaway is a tiny, electronic device which fits in the palm of your hand and is a pre-loaded, complete and self-playing audiobook. It comes with one AAA battery and a lanyard that can be worn around the neck for ease of portability. Patrons must supply their own earphones. Players can be checked out for four weeks. Playaway titles which we own.
