Getting a Library Card
Library Card Image
1. A photo ID with your current address is all that’s needed to get your library card.  If your photo ID does not have your current address, a second ID with your current address is needed.  If you have no photo ID, then 2 IDs with current address on each will be acceptable.  To obtain a card for a person not yet 15, the minor and his/her parent or legal guardian must be present.  ID in the parent’s name will suffice. Possible IDs include driver’s license, state ID,
motor vehicle registration or renewal, checkbook,  current real estate tax or utility bill, credit card bill or a piece of mail addressed to the patron and not postmarked more
than 30 days previous to the request for a new card.

2. Library cards will be issued upon request up to 15 minutes before closing.

3. Please keep your library card with you to check out materials or use the computers. For checking out materials, a photo ID with current address may be substituted in lieu of a current library card at the discretion of the library staff as long as your card is registered in the database. You can check your account via the Internet by going to "My Account" through iBistro, our web catalog (Search FAQ's). Type in your full library card number, skip the space, and enter the default password if you have not yet changed your password. If you need assistance, please contact the Adult Reference/Information Desk at 847-428-3661 x308.

Lost Library Cards
1.  If you have lost your library card, the process for obtaining a new card is the same as issuing a card for the first time.
2.  Lost library cards are $1 to replace.

Suspending Item Holds
Whether you have a hold for the latest book by your favorite author, a biography or popular DVD, you can suspend the holds on your library account so you don’t miss the materials while you’re gone. You will not lose your place in the queue and the materials will not arrive for you while you’re gone. Follow these steps:
  • Click on "My Account" and "Review my account".
  • Enter your library card number and password (a hint for the default password is available on this window).
  • Scroll to holds and click "Edit hold" or "Edit all holds".
  • Enter the suspension start date (perhaps the day before you leave) and the suspension end date (perhaps the day you arrive back).
